Hi there! My name is Mason Jar, and I’m Toronto-based illustrator actively creating and collaborating in the local arts scene. I earned a Bachelor of Design in Illustration from OCAD University in 2019 and have since displayed my work at numerous exhibitions all over the city.
I love to paint outdoors with a portable easel. A few times a week I’ll bike around the city until I find something interesting to paint, set up and do a live piece right then and there. It puts me on the spot to deliver on my creative instincts and not be self-conscious. People seem to really like seeing it, so I’ve decided to share it with the public too.
These days I host workshops to teach people how to paint “en plein-air” which just means painting outside. I provide all the materials incuding acrylic paint, brushes, and canvases. My goal is to make this process simple, approachable and relaxing. I understand that painting can be intimidating, so that’s why I try my best to create a welcoming creative environment.
When it’s too cold to paint outside, I make comics. I have written and illustrated a number of my own original stories and sold them at events like TCAF. I love the Toronto comics scene and all the people who are part of it.
