Mason Jar is a Toronto-based illustrator actively creating and collaborating in the arts scene. He earned a Bachelor of Design in Illustration from OCAD University and has since displayed his work at numerous exhibitions all over the city.
Mason has a broad range in his medium and voice. His oil paintings are eerie, serene and evocative. He frequently paints in the outdoors, drawing inspiration directly from the locations he chooses. He has a fascination with lonely and decayed landscapes, which resonate strongly throughout his body of work. There is an emphasis on strong fundamental technique in his style, as seen in his medium of choice: oil paint.
Mason also works in a very different medium - comics. His stories are unapologetically satirical and light-hearted. He draws from life experience, often illustrating diary entries or stylizing true occurences. He has attended numerous comics conventions as a vendor, including the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in both 2022 and 2024.
These days, Mason is hosting painting workshops to pass on his love and knowledge for making art to new and eager artists. They are hosted outdoors in the spring/summer and indoors in the fall/winter.
